This year at Kings Meadow, we are following a newly revised curriculum. Our bespoke, carefully designed Kings Meadow ‘CRACKING’ curriculum is a:

Creative, Real-life, Ambitious, Careers-focussed curriculum building Knowledge & skills for every Individual Nurturing Global citizens of the future

During this academic year, the children in Year 5 will be taught the following themes.

In Year 5 our class mascot is ‘Shelly Seagull’.  Shelly helps us to focus on the following characteristics of effective learning.

In Year 5, through our teaching, and the experiences we offer, our children will learn how to become:

LEADERS - I try to influence others, negotiating and balancing different views to reach workable solutions.

COMPASSIONATE- I can use previously acquired knowledge and empathy to understand people and their feelings.

INQUISITIVE - I can look closely at information, judging its importance and value, asking the right questions to verify it.

RESOURCEFUL - I can work towards goals, showing initiative and without giving up.

Current CRACKING Curriculum Theme

Our current theme is ‘Earth, Wind and Fire’. It is part of our whole school Environment driver. In this unit, we will learn through our geography focus about the causes and impact of Natural Disasters throughout the world.  We will also consider 'Global Warming' and look for solutions to this problem as we head into the future.

Please download the files below to see our current planning and Knowledge Organiser (WISK Sheet). These documents will provide you with a clear overview of all the subjects and learning that will take place in your child’s current theme.

Our current class novel is The Tempest by William Shakespeare
