Curriculum Information

At Kings Meadow we are following our bespoke, carefully designed Kings Meadow ‘CRACKING’ curriculum which is:

Creative, Real-life, Ambitious, Careers-focussed curriculum building Knowledge & skills for every Individual Nurturing Global citizens of the future

During this academic year, the children in Year 3 will be taught the following themes.

In Year 3 our class mascot is ‘Ruby the Red Squirrel’.  Ruby helps us to focus on the following characteristics of effective learning so through our teaching, and the experiences we offer, our children will learn how to become:

BRAVE - I can take responsibility, showing confidence in myself and my contribution to the group.

BOLD- I am willing to try out new things in my learning even though I may feel apprehensive.

RESILIENT - I can adapt my ideas as circumstances change.

PREPARED - I can propose practical ways forward, breaking these down into small, manageable steps.

Current CRACKING Curriculum Theme

Our current theme is ‘Astounding Africa’. It is part of our whole school Culture driver.

This term, the children will be learning about Africa, making exciting links between history and geography.

In history, we will focus on the Kingdom of Benin in West Africa. The children will discover that Benin was once a very powerful and influential kingdom. We will explore this by studying artefacts that have survived from the past, helping the children understand what life was like and why Benin was so important at the time.

In geography, the children will begin by using globes and maps to locate the continent of Africa. They will then learn where the five largest countries in Africa are positioned and collect interesting facts about each one. We will also explore how Africa’s position near the equator affects its climate, including temperature and rainfall.

Linking this learning to an African food focus, the children will find out how weather and climate influence the physical landscape and the types of food that can be grown in different regions. They will use their problem-solving skills to think about where certain crops would grow best and why.

This topic will help children build a deeper understanding of the world, develop key geography and history skills, and make meaningful links between climate, landscape, and everyday life.

Please download the files below to see our current planning and Knowledge Organiser (WISK Sheet). These documents will provide you with a clear overview of all the subjects and learning that will take place in your child’s current theme.
