Welcome to our Year 1 Class Page

We have a very exciting year of learning ahead of us. We hope that the following information about our curriculum and routines will help you and your child throughout their year in Beech Class.

Year 1 Teaching Team

Physical Education Reminders

P.E takes place on a Monday (Dance) & Thursday (P.E.)

Homework Reminders

On a Tuesday the children will be given homework and spellings, the homework should be completed by Friday. Children should aim to read and learn spellings on a daily basis.

Year 1 Reading:

Please ensure your child’s reading book and dairy are in school daily as we do not have set days to listen to the children read. Please try to listen to your child read regularly and write in your child's reading diary each time you have listened to the read.

Curriculum Information

Our bespoke, carefully designed Kings Meadow ‘CRACKING’ curriculum is a:

During this academic year, the children in Year 1 will be taught the following themes.

In Year 1 our class mascot is ‘Sandy the Sand Lizard’’. Sandy helps us to focus on the following characteristics of effective learning.

In Year 1, through our teaching, and the experiences we offer, our children will learn how to become:

DETERMINED - I will always try and will never give up.

RESOURCEFUL- I am able to find quick and clever ways to overcome challenges.

INDEPENDENT - I can work by myself.

CREATIVE - I am able to invent and develop original ideas.

Current CRACKING Curriculum Theme

Our current theme is ‘Me and My Community’. It is part of our whole school Community driver.

In this unit we will learn about the area we live in. We will develop our geographical skills, local knowledge and understanding through learning about our school, the features of its grounds, the surrounding area and how it has changed over time. We will also learn all about the importance of acting responsibly within both the school and the wider community.
