Curriculum Information

At Kings Meadow we are following our bespoke, carefully designed Kings Meadow ‘CRACKING’ curriculum which is:

Creative, Real-life, Ambitious, Careers-focussed curriculum building Knowledge & skills for every Individual Nurturing Global citizens of the future

During this academic year, the children in Year 3 will be taught the following themes.

In Year 3 our class mascot is ‘Ruby the Red Squirrel’’.  Ruby helps us to focus on the following characteristics of effective learning so through our teaching, and the experiences we offer, our children will learn how to become:

BRAVE - I can take responsibility, showing confidence in myself and my contribution to the group.

BOLD- I am willing to try out new things in my learning even though I may feel apprehensive.

RESILIENT - I can adapt my ideas as circumstances change.

PREPARED - I can propose practical ways forward, breaking these down into small, manageable steps.

Current CRACKING Curriculum Theme

Our current theme is ‘All the ages’.

This term, the children will explore Prehistoric Britain, learning about how people lived during the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. They will discover how early people found food, built homes and adapted to the world around them. Using artefacts, maps, photographs and archaeological evidence, the children will investigate famous prehistoric sites such as Skara Brae and Stonehenge and learn how historians find out about the past.

In Geography, the children will explore how rivers, forests, hills and other physical features influenced where people chose to settle. They will use maps, atlases and fieldwork to investigate whether prehistoric people would have chosen to live in our local area.

This topic will help children develop their history and geography skills, understand how Britain changed over thousands of years, and explore how prehistoric people helped shape the country we live in today.

Please download the files below to see our current planning and Knowledge Organiser (WISK Sheet). These documents will provide you with a clear overview of all the subjects and learning that will take place in your child’s current theme.

Our current class novel is Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura.
