  • Jakes Sensory World and Garden, Netherton Jake's Sensory World opened its doors in 2012 and is named after Jake Hall, a Netherton child born with disabilities. Jake's mum, Jo, used to visit a sensory world in Preston with Jake but wanted something closer to home to use so along with friends and family, she helped fund the unit which offers special facilities for children with disabilities and their families. This amazing facility has two distinct zones - a soft play area ideal for younger children and a sensory zone which is a perfect chill out room. We have also recently opened a beautiful new sensory garden which has been designed with special sensory plants that for children to touch and smell and there is a seating area for wheelchair users. As the gardens mature, staff are hoping to grow yummy vegetables.
  • Daddy Shark Swim School, Southport Here at Daddy Shark Swim School we teach swimmers with a range of additional support needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Global Development Delay, Pathological Demand Avoidance, Cerebral Palsy, Down's syndrome, depression, anxiety, deafness and other mental, learning and physical conditions. Autism Swim is an international social enterprise that specialises in wandering and drowning prevention teaching for those with ASD and other abilities. Autism Swim's certification packages have been developed combining the expertise of autism specialists, behaviour specialists, occupational therapists and swimming instructors, and gives teachers the knowledge, skills, resources and confidence needed to most effectively teach swimmers who need extra support in the water—in addition to being able to provide effective advice to parents/carers.
  • Sensory Swimming Pool, Waterloo Sensory Swim CIC has been working to make swimming sessions accessible to all members of the community. Our pool is a fully accessible pool and has a disabled changing area on the poolside. We have built a pool with gradient steps into the pool water and will soon have in place a handrail and hoist for those needing additional assistance.
  • ASD Sensory Swimming Programme The pace of lessons is entirely dictated by the child's needs, with plenty of opportunity for children to explore the sensory feel of the warm water. The swimming instructor gives attention solely to the individuals often complex needs. Swimming skills are presented to the children in small incremental steps and practised repeatedly until the child feels at ease and is ready to move onto the next step. Activities and skills are introduced slowly so the individual has time to process the information before moving onto the next stage.
