As , we will study the chronology of Ancient Greece and the important dates of its' history. We will make a comparison between Athens and Sparta. We will look at the events of the Ancient Olympics and how that compares to the modern Olympics. Also, we will find out about the story of Troy and the Battle Of Marathon. We will find out about the Greek Gods that were worshiped too.
As , we will be locating Greece on a map of Europe and researching key information about the country. We will then find Ancient Greece on a map and label the city states. We will look at how the landscapes of Greece affected where people settled.
As we will be writing a range of different text types including: Myths , Diary Entries from Theseus, Discussion texts linked to democracy and Narrative Poetry based on myths read. We will also include Information texts for an information booklet/ tourist's guide and News reports from the Ancient Olympic Games. Play scripts will be studied linked to Greek theatre and time slip stories -slipping back to the time of Ancient Greece.
As we will be looking in detail at architecture and the importance of pottery and the designs that were used. We will look at the work of Myron, a famous Greek sculptor.
As we will research Greek types of bread.From this we will design and make our own. With this we will design our own healthy filling and sample traditional Greek foods.
As w e will be learning to further develop the quality in our actions, interpret music to create an effect and perform with increased control and precision. We will be producing a dance based on an Ancient Greek myth.
As we will look at evolution and inheritance biology, studying changes over time, looking at famous scientists such as Darwin and finding out about plant and animal adaptation. . After half term, we will be studying light. We will identify sources of light and revise facts that light travels in straight lines and opaque objects form shadows. Understand that to see, light needs to enter the eye. Investigate light reflection and refraction and the speed of light.
As , we will be using the internet to carry out research about Greece. We will also be learning how to create our own E-books! On the computers, we will program our own simple game on Scratch.
As , we will be planning a holiday to Greece and looking at how much we need to spend including the conversion of the pound to the Euro
Homework is given on a Thursday and due in the following Tuesday.
Spellings are given every Monday and are tested the following Monday.
Children are expected to read every night. Children should continue to learn their times tables and the inverse of each multiplication fact.
