Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

(Don't forget to scroll down and see pictures and information about what we have been doing!)

Hello and welcome to Ash Class! Our teacher is Mr Currie!

Our Teaching Assistant is Miss Hoyle!

As we are in Year 5, we are expected to be good role models to the rest of the school. We always put our best effort into our work and we enjoy our exciting and fun lessons!

This term our topic will be 'The Victorians'

As historians, we will be looking at when the Victorian era was, who Queen Victoria was and why she was so important. We will also be looking at what life was like for children in the Victorian era. This includes working in the workhouse, going to school and daily routine and life at home including houses and toys! We will also be looking at some of the inventions made during the Victorian period.

As geographers, we will be looking at where the Victorian Empire was and which parts were most significant. We will also be looking at the places Victorians went on holiday!

As artists, we will be looking at a variety of toys and representing them on paper. We will also have a go at drawing a scene in London during the Victorian period.

As musicians, we will be looking at some of the music during the Victorian period and how it differs to music now!

As dancers we will be dancing to some of the Victorian music. .

As design technologists we will be making our own authentic Victorian scones!

As IT experts, we will be using the internet to carry out our own research about the Victorians. We will be creating a newspaper using software on the computers. We will also be using the iPads to create a set of instructions on how to play a Victorian game!

As mathematicians, we will be solving word problems associated with the Victorian era!

As writers, we will be listening to the Victorian story 'Street Child' before writing our own stories. We will also be writing a set of instructions on how to play a Victorian game as well as looking at persuasive writing and drawing conclusions about the conditions of the Victorian workhouse.

As scientists, we will be looking at 'Plants'. We will be finding out about the different parts of plants and their functions, how plants disperse their seeds, and carrying out a fair test to find out the best conditions for plants to grow!
