Spellings are given out on a Monday on and children will be tested on a Friday.
Our topic for the Spring term is Dungeons and Dragons
As historians we will be studying castles and their significance in our history. We will be learning about British Kings and Queens and we will be learning about a specific castle.
As scientist we will be working scientifically studying the uses of different materials. We will be comparing the uses of everyday materials in and around school with materials found in other places (at home, the journey to school, on visits and in stories, rhymes and song. We will be classifying the uses of different materials and recording our observations.
As writers we will be looking at the story 'The Dragon Machine' using the story to write a traditional narrative. We will be looking at non-fiction text about castles and we will write a set of instructions on how to catch a dragon. We will be writing a recount of a knights day, a diary entry about looking after a dragon and a poem about dragons.
As mathematicians we will be focusing on multiplication and division word problems using castle's as the theme. We will be looking at the properties of 2D and 3D shapes and using this to help us identify the different shapes featured on a castle. We will be asking questions and completing tally charts and sorting information into carroll and venn diagrams.
In computing we will be using different search engines to research castles and George and the Dragon. We will be using a graphics program to design a castle and we will be using purple mash to create a profile of a knight and to create an animation.
As geographers we will be looking at castles all over our country. We will be describing what they are like and looking at what the places are like. We will be using maps, google earth and photographs to help us to describe the places we are studying. We will also locate Asia and Europe on a world map and identify China. We will also visit a castle.
As designers we will be researching, designing and making a cushion. We will be making a rescue vehicle. We will also be looking at designs of castles from the past.
